My sister shared this NYTimes article with my brother and me. It mentions some of the development for this curriculum that was done at our high school.
Reflecting on last Friday conversation
Reflecting on last Friday conversation with “Marianne” which led to starting this blog. Yes, there is a distinction between “fun stuff” and “serious stuff” but I think she draws the line wrongly, not sufficiently crediting how an apparently trivial entertainment item is going to lead onwards to something serious.
John Nasukaluk Clare
has taken to including his middle name when he host-IDs himself during the WFMT morning program. I haven’t quite been able to make it out when I hear it, so searched this morning and saw it at this apparently somewhat out-of-date site, but then went to check at the WFMT Hosts page.
Let’s try an embed, just for fun.
Amazon Locker offline,
I had an item delivered to the Amazon Locker, but wasn’t able to pick it up as the user screen was showing a Linux console preboot prompt instead of the usual customer interface. That was midweek, same thing when I returned today (Sunday).
It was only moderately hard to get thru the customer help options to someone who understood the problem. So I get a refund, and reordered the item.
A couple years ago, when faced with a similar problem, I called the posted phone number while standing there, and it did eventually work as the person I reached was able to remotely reboot it. And then I put in my code and retrieved my purchase. But I didn’t feel like standing there that long, this time.
npr.org/puzzle
I knew there might be a semi-conscious reason I tuned the radio in this room to WBEZ (local NPR). Sunday mornings I like to listen to the Puzzle feature, which is on at 9:40, not a time I would otherwise note.

OK, maybe not plexiglass
Even if carpeting isn’t the right stuff, I’ll need to put something under the cat feeding bowls — to delineate the area (otherwise they and I push or kick the bowls around) and to keep spills from the floor. Maybe a piece of lightweight plexiglass?
How about something like this for the cat bowls: https://a.co/d/9abLBdZ It comes in numerous sizes and colors; is absorbent; and is easy to clean. I have one and like it very much.

Jerry Coyne is pretty much my political model these days

But also part of my daily reading because of localness (University of Chicago), similarity of background (he is just about exactly my age, plus or minus a month, and a Jewish atheist).
